Community Spaces- Developing Stronger Roots

The newly opened Burne Park at 838 Burne Avenue is open and approved by kids of all ages! The park is shining example of how municipal green space can contribute to stronger neighbourhoods. Officially opened in late 2025, this new park was developed as part of the City’s broader Mill Creek Linear Park vision — a long-term plan to transform the Mill Creek corridor into a continuous public amenity.

Burne Park offers climbing structures and play areas for children, picnic tables, open lawns and shaded spots for families, and improved pedestrian connections that help link nearby streets and community spaces. The inclusion of naturalized areas and pathways not only enhances the local environment but also invites people to explore, linger, and interact.

Mayor Tom Dyas said the park gives “families a place to connect, children a place to play, and neighbours a reason to gather,” highlighting exactly the role parks play in building vibrant, resilient communities.

As Kelowna grows, investments like Burne Park ensure that public spaces keep pace with development — spaces where everyday interactions help foster stronger social bonds, healthier lifestyles, and a greater sense of civic pride. Parks like this aren’t just places on a map; they are the heart of thriving communities.

This a welcomed investment into one of Kelowna’s original neighborhoods- Bring on the fun!
