Okanagan Spotlight: McKinley Landing

Situated up North Glenmore Road just over 15 minutes from downtown Kelowna, there is a stunning beachside community hidden from the main roads. McKinley Landing is a scenic 872-acre neighbourhood, tucked away along the eastern side of Okanagan Lake. With an accessible beachfront that is available for all residents to use, this location offers the quintessential lakeside lifestyle and community.

As a highly sought-after area for investors and home buyers in the Okanagan, we’ve put together some information to help you get to know the area.

History

The community gets its name from John McKinley, an Ontarian who was the first to inhabit the area in 1896. He set up a homestead and lived in McKinley Landing for 30 years. During that time, the area was used by the crews of Canadian Pacific Railway boats that were traveling on Okanagan Lake. On their way to larger communities, boats would stop here to gather wood to fuel their furnaces.

McKinley Beach & Amenities

McKinley Landing is known for having a rural feel, while only being 10 minutes from the nearest shopping centre in Glenmore. Everything you need is easily accessible. You’ll find plenty of dining and entertainment options nearby, with downtown Kelowna and Orchard Park Mall only 15 minutes away. For the jet setter, Kelowna International Airport is a quick 10 minute drive north.

The neighbourhood itself has no shortage of things to do:

  • McKinley Beach has a full kilometer of accessible beachfront for residents to enjoy that is perfect for swimming, sunbathing and more.
  • Members of the community have access to a 110-slip marina to store and launch boats and water toys.
  • There are eleven different hiking trails in the area to choose from with varying difficulties.
  • The tennis and pickleball courts offer a great way to stay active.
  • The community playground is available for the kids to get some fresh air.
  • There’s an outdoor gym to help maintain your healthy lifestyle.
  • Try your green thumb at the community gardens.

Upcoming plans include a community centre in 2023, and a vineyard and winery that are currently in development!
